PHILADELPHIA — Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua said he did not receive an explanation from officials about the taunting penalty he was called for in Sunday’s 33-26 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The play came in the third quarter, after Nacua had made one of his 11 catches on the day. After a 20-yard gain, he stood and flexed and then pointed both his fingers in the direction of the end zone.
But Eagles linebacker Jihaad Campbell was on the grass in front of Nacua, and he was flagged taunting, costing the Rams 15 yards.
“It’s something I’ve kind of done all of the first downs,” Nacua said. “Didn’t feel like that one was any different on my end. Kind of difficult when you see there was a big third-down catch by A.J. Brown, too, where we had guys on the floor, kind of bodies nearby and he has a big celebration, obviously a big third-down conversion. So feel like that play’s very similar, but didn’t feel like it went both ways.”
Nacua, who finished the game with 112 yards receiving and another six rushing on one carry, said that the flag won’t change the way he celebrates moving forward.
“I think it’s something that kind of speaks to our room and my kind of play style,” Nacua said. “So I definitely will be, pre-game, asking some questions and letting the refs aware of how I’m kind of doing it.”
Moving up
Quarterback Matthew Stafford moved pass Matt Ryan into ninth on the NFL’s all-time passing touchdowns list with his 381st and 382nd TD throws on Sunday. His first came on a 44-yarder to Davante Adams in the end zone, then he found running back Kyren Williams in the flat for a 10-yard score in the third quarter.
Notes
Left guard Steve Avila (ankle sprain) was inactive against the Eagles. Second-year guard Justin Dedich started in his place for the second straight game.
TE Colby Parkinson (shoulder) was active on Sunday, while rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson (non-injury related) was inactive.
