A Chicago police officer was injured after a pursuit ended with a crash in the Garfield Park neighborhood Saturday morning.
Just after 1 a.m., Illinois State Police troopers observed a vehicle that had been stolen and attempted to stop its driver. That driver ended up fleeing the scene, leading police on a pursuit.
Near the intersection of Madison and Pulaski in the Garfield Park neighborhood, that fleeing vehicle crashed head-on into a Chicago police squad car, according to ISP officials.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was taken into custody and brought to an area hospital. The Chicago police officer at the wheel of the squad car was also hospitalized, police said.
No immediate information was given on the condition of either individual.
It is believed that during the pursuit at least three passengers fled from the suspect’s vehicle, and there has been no update on their whereabouts at this time.
An investigation remains underway into the crash.
