If there’s one man who knows how the Dallas Cowboys operate, it’s former player and head coach, Jason Garrett.
Garrett won three rings with the Cowboys in the 1990s as Troy Aikman’s backup and later became their head coach from 2010-2019.
He now spends his time as a broadcaster for NBC sharing his insight to the audience.
Ahead of the Cowboys’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, Garrett and his NBC crew, consisting of Devin McCourty, Chris Simms, Rodney Harrison, Tony Dungy, and Maria Taylor, broke down the NFC East matchup, while a few took shots at America’s Team.
Garrett, once a proud member of the franchise that gave him fame, had to stand there with a smile as the crew threw dirt on his former team.
“The Cowboys wait, they drag their feet, then they have to pay the player a premium,” Simms said. “And it costs them depth and other good players on their football team.”
“What I think about the Cowboys, it’s chaos,” McCourty began. “Dallas has so much going on. It’s a documentary this summer, it’s the Micah Parsons trade stuff.
“I know Rodney and Coach Dungy were talking about it was the right move… But is it?… We have no idea how Dallas’ training camp was. No one talks about it. We talk about everything else.”
“In the world of football we all grew up in, circuses don’t win Super Bowls,” Simms added.
Garrett tried to defend the Star while bringing up how many players the front office has gotten right over the years.
“The evaluations since about 2010 have been really good,” Garrett said. “10 Pro Bowlers in the first round, a couple Hall of Famers, that part of it is fine.”
Juxtaposing the defending Super Bowl champions with the franchise that hasn’t reached the NFC Championship in 30 years makes for a stark contrast.
