GORHAM, N.Y. — The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and several other agencies are expected to give an update on Thursday about the fire that destroyed a massive warehouse in Gorham.
Officials say the 57,000-square-foot building was used to store highly flammable expired hand sanitizer and had multiple code violations. Hundreds of firefighters battled the flames, which broke out on Saturday night and burned into Sunday morning.
News10NBC has obtained violation letters, cease and desist orders, emails, and a lawsuit through the Freedom of Information Law that point to the concerns state and local officials had about the business, which never received a permit or site plan approval from the town.
In addition, the Gorham Planning Board chair expressed concerns about the storage of flammable substances in the building during a meeting in June, just months before a massive fire.
