That said, I think it’s probably close to impossible to project a return timeline until Megill is throwing again. I also think that, if the Brewers stay well up in the division over the next two weeks, they aren’t going to push to get Megill back for the regular season. Instead, they’d aim to have him at 100% for the playoffs.
Will this wind up mattering to the Cubs or any other NL team? Mathematically, it remains unlikely. And, in any case, it’s not like you want to be cheering on an injury. All we can say for now is that the Brewers will be without their 2.54-ERA closer for a while.
Brewers starter Quinn Priester is getting bumped from his scheduled start for “a wrist thing,” but the current expectation is that it won’t be an IL situation. So that’ll also be something to watch going forward.
