On Monday, Aug. 25, the Sacramento fire captain was honored by Sacramento elected officials and firefighters for his advocacy, which helped pass a new California domestic violence law. The law seeks to protect future victims of domestic violence and expose potential killers.
Hunter wore a domestic violence awareness bracelet throughout his Survivor journey, and admitted he applied because his later sister was a super fan of the show.
“After losing his beloved sister, he made a choice: a choice to turn unimaginable grief into purpose,” said Isabel Gatdula, a representative from Ashby’s office to The Sacramento Bee. “He became a voice for families across California who felt silenced by flawed investigations. His courage to testify and relive personal pain and fight for justice will save countless lives.”
