WHEW. That was quite terrifying there at the end. Thank you, Nico Hoerner:

— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) August 21, 2025Bases loaded, 9th inning, down a run, two outs, and they get the line drive … but it’s caught? Doesn’t that feel like something that was absolutely NOT happening to the Brewers last week?
The Cubs put three on the board in the third thanks to Jacob Misiorowski’s wildness, thanks to Matt Shaw working an INCREDIBLE 11-pitch walk to load the bases, and thanks to Michael Busch sending one to the wall to clear the bases. It was a fantastic sequence, and exactly the kind of thing you need to do to beat these Brewers when they give you a little. You have to take advantage.
Shaw added what wound up being a critical insurance run with his 9th home run of the second half, and also potentially saved a run with a great barehanded play. For all that, he’s the Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game.
Colin Rea was mostly decent today, with some really good stuff showing at times, but the control wasn’t what it usually is. The defense helped him out in a big way, as did the Brewers not getting their usual magic touch with sequencing.
Big win. Big, big win. I told myself coming into this series that I wasn’t even going to start THINKING about thinking about the division again unless the Cubs won four of five. Well, that was win number three with the finale coming tomorrow …
