For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Madalyn Petty from Tyler, Texas, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Georgia for 2028-29. She told SwimSwam:
“I’m SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Georgia!! I would first like to thank my family, friends, and teammates for their support along the way, as well as Coach Gordy, Coach Abbi, and Coach Petty (the best dad ever!), and all of the coaches at Tyler Rose! Additionally, I would like to give a huge thank you to the coaches at Georgia—Coach Stefanie, Fernando, and Jerry—for making this dream possible. SIC ’EM!!! ”
Petty is one of the top distance freestylers in the cohort, for which we ranked her #20 on our Way Too Early list of top swimming girls from the high school class of 2028. She is a junior at Tyler Legacy High School (where her father, Jason Petty, is the Tyler ISD Aquatic Coordinator and high school swim coach) and is already a 2x individual Texas state champion in the 500 free, having won with 4:45.05 as a freshman and 4:46.06 as a sophomore, at the UIL 6A State Championships.
In club swimming, Petty trains year-round with Tyler Rose Aquatic Club. Her best times in her main events come from Justin Sectionals, a month after high school season, where she won the 500 free (4:43.22), 1000 free (9:39.21), 1650 free (16:18.88), and 400 IM (4:16.14). Her 500 time was a 1.8-second improvement, and she dropped 8.3 in the 1000 free, 1.9 in the mile, and 7.4 in the 400 IM.
She wrapped up long-course season at U.S. Summer Junior Nationals, earning PBs in the 200 free (2:05.95), 400 free (4:17.14), 800 free (8:43.25), 1500 free (16:42.26), and 400 IM (4:52.50).
