BMW Championship talkSPORT betting tips – Best golf bets and expert advice ...Middle East

Sport by : (talksport) -

There are just 50 players left standing as the PGA Tour’s elite head to Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland for the BMW Championship, the last event before next week’s Tour Championship.

Justin Rose arrives as last week’s winner, while Patrick Cantlay was the last man to triumph at Caves Valley but it’s Scottie Scheffler who heads to the suburbs of Baltimore as the resounding favourite.

Rory McIlroy, who skipped the St Jude Championship, the first event of the FedEx Cup play-offs where Rose prevailed, is back with a 15/2 quote, although world No.1 Scheffler is 5/2 and going to take all the beating.

Cam can make it two in three at Caves Valley

It’s always hard to make a case for anyone other than Scheffler and that’s no different at Caves Valley with the world No.1 in ultra-consistent form.

Last week’s T3 at TPC Southwind was a 12th straight top-10 finish for the best player on the planet.

That said, ‘only’ four of those 12 yielded wins so at 5/2, in a field this strong, it’s probably better to give Scheffler a wide berth.

The point is that so many of the field, inevitably having got to this stage of the campaign, are playing well, among them Cam Young, who looks a really live threat at 22/1.

Backing up a win is always hard to do but Young gave it a real go last week, following up his six-stroke success at the Wyndham by coming home in fifth at the St Jude, powering to the tape with a last-day, best-of-the-day 64.

With a place on Team USA at the Ryder Cup far from assured he has work to do still and his SG Off-the-tee stats over the last two weeks – 2nd and 1st – suggest he possesses exactly the right tools to contend at Caves Valley.

Henley hung out at a price to devour

Another player in rock-solid form heading to Maryland is Russell Henley, yet his consistency isn’t actually reflected in the odds.

The world No.5 – (that’s the bit that still surprises many) – has soared up the rankings but barely caused a stir last week with his T17 finish.

The reason Henley barely got any namechecks was because this was the same player who had form figures of 5-10-2-10 since missing the cut at the USPGA.

The 36-year-old landed his fifth PGA Tour win earlier this year at the Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill, is a vastly improved putter this season and probably is not getting the recognition he quite deserves.

He’ll be quite happy to fly under the radar and looks a rock-solid each-way bet.

Aberg’s A-game can snuff out Rory threat

Rory McIlroy’s trio of top-10s in his last three starts, and Tommy Fleetwood’s rich vein of luckless form, make the Ryder Cup aces worthy market leaders for Top European glory.

But it’s the third name on the list, Ludvig Aberg, who gets the vote to eclipse those two and the several other contenders.

Ninth at last week’s St Jude where he shot a trio of 67s, followed decent efforts at the Scottish and The Open, and 10th overall in SG Off-the-tee is the metric which ought to persuade anyone that the Swede is capable of another big weekend.
