BERGEN, N.Y. – A Batavia man died, and four people from North Chili were hospitalized following a crash in Genesee County.
The crash happened on Route 33 in the town of Bergen just before 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said 39-year-old Joseph Meli hit an SUV head-on while trying to pass a car. Meli died at the scene.
Mari, 32, and Paul Hamilton, 35, who were in the SUV, were seriously injured. Deputies say Mari was driving. They were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital along with two children who were in the back seat. The children are expected to be okay.
