As part of an effort to enhance a rapidly growing industry, U.S. Rep. Gabe Evans has joined with three other members of Congress to launch the Advancing Humanity in Space Congressional Caucus.
On July 21, Evans joined Republican Rep. Don Bacon, Democratic Rep. Glenn Ivey and Democratic Rep. George Whitesides to create the Advancing Humanity in Space Congressional Caucus. The caucus is dedicated to U.S. leadership in space exploration to demonstrate how space can unite people across ideological divides around a shared vision for the future.
“I look forward to working in a bipartisan fashion to promote human space exploration, while supporting the growth of Colorado’s Eighth District’s emerging commercial space industry and economy,” Evans said in a news release. “It’s critical that we continue to explore, innovate and expand humanity’s understanding of space and its role in shaping our future.”
Before being elected as the representative for Colorado’s 8th District, which encompasses most of the eastern side of Interstate 25 from Thornton to Greeley, Evans met with several companies across the district that are part of its burgeoning space industry. According to Evans’ Deputy Chief of Staff Delanie Bomar, the district is home to many of the country’s leading space and defense contractors.
“CO-08 is home to a rapidly growing aerospace and defense industry, with key players in space and emerging technologies already operating across the region,” Bomar said in an email. “Congressman Evans has been actively engaged in advancing this industry and supporting its growth through policy, advocacy, and on-the-ground engagement.”
Evans met with three local companies: Ursa Major Technologies in Berthoud, as well as Maxar Technologies and Advanced Space Headquarters, which are both located in Windsor.
Maxar Technologies designs and manufactures satellites and spacecraft components for communications, Earth observation, exploration and on-orbit servicing and assembly. Ursa Major Technologies is also a leading aerospace and defense firm developing cutting-edge propulsion systems critical to national defense and future space missions.
With this caucus, Evans would advocate for keeping those investments in Colorado. Evans also advocated to keep the Space Command in Colorado as part of the caucus’ announcement.
Additionally, Evans’ vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that was signed into law last month supported strategic investments in space exploration and national security missions with a space nexus, according to Evans’ office. The bill includes funding for various investments in military space capabilities as well as $9.9 billion in funding to NASA for the Artemis IV and V lunar missions.
