As always, you can play with these cut-offs however you like, but with Alex Bregman, the uptick in performance started in relatively early June, and has really taken off since July 11: .283/.365/.609/165 wRC+. Nico Hoerner has also been much more Nico-Hoerner-like since mid-June, and his takeoff traces to July 17: .432/.432/.545/173 wRC+.
The Cubs really need positive production from Hoerner and Bregman to have the kind of offense that they need (i.e., the kind of offense that can cover over a thin pitching staff). That’s not only because they are 22.2% of the lineup and, you know, you need a chunk like that to produce in general, but also because they are a huge part of the variation in looks that this offense can give an opposing pitcher.
