Nazar Leading, Blashill’s Pitch to Kane, Unhappy McDavid, Zee’s Final Shift, and Other Blackhawks Bullets ...Middle East

Jared Clinton at The Hockey News wrote a nice feature on Frank Nazar that gives readers a little look at some of Nazar’s big personality. It also speaks, again, to the perspective that love of the young guys in the Blackhawks’ room have when thinking about the bigger picture while learning on the job.

Clinton points out that Nazar chuckled when talking about the “veteran” leaders in the room being… 21 and 22 years old. Nazar himself stands out as someone other young guys gravitate toward, and he has a whopping 122 games of NHL experience. But the young core is growing together and continue to have fun despite the struggles in the win column. As Nazar said, when the wins become more frequent, the fun will go up as well.

“To find a team where, maybe, things aren’t going exactly the way they want and everyone still stays so close, it’s pretty rare,” he said. “That’s the chemistry and what we’re building here in Chicago. That goes to the GMs and everyone picking the right guys – guys who are not just good players but good off the ice. A lot of guys come in and fit in right away, and it’s been a lot of fun to play with all these guys. I’m super excited. I know things will turn around, but when things turn around and are a little brighter, we’re going to have much more fun.”

— The Hockey News (@TheHockeyNews) July 27, 2026 Patrick Kane was on “Pardon My Take” on Monday and talked about how the Blackhawks recruited him. What stood out to me was him talking about how head coach Jeff Blashill broke down the roster to him and gave him an idea of how things might work out. Kane mentioned his conversation with Blashill when he spoke with the media last week, but this was a little more on that conversation. Good 75-second listen to that bit here.

— Big Cat (@BarstoolBigCat) July 27, 2026 The NHLPA Rookie Showcase begins today. The Blackhawks will be represented by Sacha Boisvert and Roman Kantserov. I’m looking forward to speaking with Kantserov and the other rookies who are in Chicago for the next three days tomorrow. Blackhawks prospect Mason West moved up the lineup for the USA’s White squad in their second game of the World Junior Summer Showcase on Monday evening, starting on the right wing on the second line. He scored his first goal of the showcase, the final goal for his team in a 6-4 win over Sweden. Here’s West’s goal.

— Steven Ellis (@SEllisHockey) July 28, 2026 A consolidated, single USA team will play Samu Alalauri and Finland at 2 PM CT today before Canada’s first game of the event against Sweden at 6 PM CT. Sweden has allowed six goals in both of their games against the split USA teams. We’ll see how/where Ryan Roobroeck fits into the Canadian lineup this evening. Could be a fun day if all three Blackhawks prospects are in action. Sadly, as I shared yesterday, Xavier Villeneuve is no longer participating with Canada as he continues to rehab some hip issues.

— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) July 27, 2026 Connor McDavid spoke with some media at Zach Hyman’s golf event on Monday and… didn’t sound happy with the Oilers’ offseason. Good luck with that, Edmonton.

“It’s obviously disappointing to lose someone like Darnell and the rest of the guys,” McDavid said. “But it’s part of the business, unfortunately. It’s been hard to really put into words what Nursery’s been to not only me, but the whole group and everybody in Edmonton. So extremely disappointed to see that happen.”

— Daily Faceoff (@DailyFaceoff) July 27, 2026 The Anaheim Ducks acquired center Sean Farrell from the Montreal Canadiens for left wing Sasha Pastujov. Finally, Zdeno Chara is hosting a charity game they’re calling Zee’s Final Shift on August 21 in his hometown of Trenčín that has a loaded roster of former NHL players. They announced Blackhawks hall of famer Duncan Keith will be part of the festivities, joining former Blackhawks Michal Handzuš and Marian Hossa. The roster for the game is absolutely loaded, also including Ray Bourque, Jaromír Jágr, Patrice Bergeron, Anže Kopitar, David Pastrňák, Brad Marchand and more!
