The kayaker who went missing Tuesday night on Fox River in St. Charles has still not been found, despite ongoing search efforts by local authorities.
The St. Charles Fire Department said they continued the search throughout the day Wednesday and were unsuccessful in locating the man despite “extensive efforts.”
Wednesday’s search utilized advanced techniques and specialized personnel, including side scan sonar technology, search and rescue canines and dive teams, the fire department said.
Authorities are now calling the search a recovery effort.
The search will resume 8 a.m. Thursday, with the addition of a specialized underwater rover to aid in the hunt, authorities said.
Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the kayaker fell into Fox River south of Ferson Creek, according to the St. Charles Fire Department.
Six boats were deployed by the fire department to conduct rescue efforts shortly after the call came in and the search continued throughout the night until 5 a.m. Wednesday. Specialized sonar, underwater rovers and multiple divers were used to hunt for the missing man.
After a short break, the search resumed around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and continued until 4:30 p.m., authorities said.
Mutual aid from 29 area fire departments is supporting the search, St. Charles Fire Department said.
