ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. — The Ontario County Board of Supervisors is speaking out after the county’s district attorney claimed the board conducted a “politically motivated investigation” into a courtroom party.
A statement from the board says it wishes to “reaffirm its commitment to integrity in county government” after DA Jim Ritts made the comments during a news conference on Thursday, July 17. As News10NBC has covered, an internal report says an annual DA’s office party, known as “Fall Fest,” spilled into a jury room and courtroom with alcohol. It happened on Election Day of 2024, a holiday for state employees, so the courtrooms were closed.
The board says it rejects Ritts’ accusations that the investigation into the party was corrupt or politically motivated, saying “these assertions are both unfounded and inaccurate.” The board also says it supports its compliance investigators, calling their work critical for responsible governance.
Ritts said he was unaware that anyone had brought alcohol into courtrooms. His conference came weeks after he lost the Republican nomination to challenger Jason MacBride in a narrow primary election. MacBride said he believes the controversy around the party helped him to secure the win. Despite losing the primary, Ritts says he plans to run against McBride in the November general election on the conservative ticket.
