Three Alabama baseball players heard their names called last week, as they were drafted into the MLB. Those drafted include starting pitcher Riley Quick, outfielder Kade Snell, and centerfielder Richie Bonomolo Jr. Alabama also continued its streak of having at least one player get drafted each year since 1979.
Riley Quick — Minnesota Twins
Quick was drafted by the Minnesota Twins as the 36th overall pick. He was just the sixth first-rounder drafted from Alabama and the second consecutive first round pick, joining starting pitcher Ben Hess, who was drafted by the Yankees 26th overall in 2024.
Quick put up solid numbers as a member of the Crimson Tide, despite his 2024 season being cut short due to Tommy John surgery. He started 14 times over the 2025 season, with a 3.92 ERA and 70 strikeouts. Quick was also a Second Team All-SEC selection, as well as an ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Second Team pick.
Kade Snell — Chicago Cubs
Alabama’s captain was drafted 151st overall in the fifth round by the Chicago Cubs. The Auburn transfer started in 94 games for the Crimson Tide over two seasons.
Snell led the team in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.363), hits (77) and on-base percentage (.464). He was also fourth in the SEC in batting average and eighth in on-base percentage. Snell was named to ABCA/Rawlings All Southeast Region First Team and First Team All-SEC outfielder by the league’s head coaches.
He also pitched for the Crimson Tide in 2024, making 10 appearances with a 1-0 record, posting a 6.08 ERA with 23 strikeouts.
Richie Bonomolo Jr. — New York Yankees
Bronx native Bonomolo Jr. was taken in the 7th round with the 224th overall pick by the New York Yankees. He started every game this past year in his lone season with the Crimson Tide.
Bonomolo Jr. always found ways to get on base for Alabama. He had a batting average of .311, which was third on the team, and reached base safely in 53 out of 59 games. He also led the team in walks (40) and was 16/17 for stolen base attempts. He was named to the All-SEC Tournament team after finishing 4-for-7 with two doubles, four RBIs, two walks and a stolen base.
