Paddy Pimblett is certainly making his mark on the UFC lightweight division.
Despite having only seven UFC fights, Pimblett appears to be a front runner for a title shot against lightweight champion Ilia Topuria.
GettyHolloway is gearing up to face his rival for the final time in Poirier’s retirement bout[/caption]Dana White has confirmed he will likely be at the leading end of the queue alongside Justin Gaethje for a bid at the 155lbs crown.
Likewise Holloway is looking to push for the belt, and ‘Blessed’ is preparing to try and halt a rot of two consecutive losses to Dustin Poirier in their trilogy bout in Las Vegas tomorrow night.
A win against his two-time rival at UFC 318 could put him in line for the world title shot against Topuria.
Holloway is the current No.5 in the UFC lightweight rankings, while Pimblett sits at No.10.
While Pimblett entered for the octagon for the first time in 2021, ‘The Baddy’ has won all of his bouts to climb the UFC rankings.
Holloway can see the reasoning behind Pimblett being the next in line to face No.1 ranked UFC lightweight Topuria.
The MMA icon explained his stance: “We’re in a sport where I say we have moments.
“People forget we’re in the entertainment business. That’s just what it is. That’s what fighting is.
“We’re entertainment, and whoever sells those seats, that’s what the UFC is going to do.
“When you talk about the rankings and Arman [Tsarukyan], we have the president talking about how Arman is taking the right step to getting a title shot again, which is insane, and with Justin Gaethje saying about a title shot, I mean my last ‘55 fight, I did what I did [to him] and now I’m here at ‘55. It’s just weird.”
But if Pimblett gets a shot ahead of him, he believes he can beat TopuriaGettyLast month Pimblett stepped into the octagon to staredown with Topuria immediately after ‘El Matador’ had secured a knockout win over Charles Oliveira.
Topuria shoved the Briton out of his way, ultimately setting the stage for what looks to be the UFC’s next lightweight title showdown.
Holloway continued: “At the end of the day, it’s entertainment. You can’t be mad. You can’t be mad at anything.
“You want something in here? You’ve got to open your mouth. What’s the saying, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. That’s how it goes.”
Pimblett would be an underdog if he ends up challenging Topuria for the UFC lightweight title.
But Holloway isn’t ready to dismiss him just because the prevailing narrative suggests he will struggle to beat the dominant king.
Pimblett has yet to be beaten in his UFC stint so farGettyWith the title fight presumed to be taking place later this year, or even early in 2026, it’s seems one of Pimblett or Gaethje will be Topuria’s next opponent.
