A skydiver was injured after experiencing a hard landing at the Michigan City Municipal Airport in northwest Indiana on Sunday morning, according to authorities.
The hard landing occurred at around 10:04 a.m. at the airport along State Road 212 and East Michigan Boulevard. According to the Michigan City Fire Department, an experienced skydiver landed on the concrete and suffered injuries to his lower extremities.
The individual was conscious and alert before being flown to a local trauma center by medical helicopter, fire officials said.
The injury comes days after two separate skydiving deaths in Illinois.
On July 7, a central Illinois dentist was killed in a skydiving accident in LaSalle County.
Two days later, one skydiver was killed and another was injured in a mid-air collision in Rochelle, authorities said. Both men were sent flying through the air when their parachutes collapsed.
