Berhampur: A 19-year-old youth has reportedly met tragic death in Odisha’s Ganjam district after a government-run 108 ambulance transporting him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur broke down in the Khallikote ghat area.
The deceased has been identified as Shankar Maharana.
The ambulance remained stranded for nearly three hours, delaying critical medical care, according to sources.
Shankar, a resident of Aitipur village, suffered severe abdominal injuries after being struck by a cricket ball while playing on Thursday afternoon.
Initially rushed to Balugaon hospital, he was referred to MKCG Medical College for advanced treatment. However, the ambulance malfunctioned after traveling 50 km, leaving Shankar and his family stranded.
The youth’s condition worsened rapidly during the delay, and he passed away inside the stranded ambulance.
The incident has ignited public fury, with locals demanding accountability and urgent reforms to ensure the reliability of Odisha’s emergency medical services, as per reports.
