Suns have intriguing options with No. 10 pick that could flip their trajectory

Kevin Durant leaves Suns with paradox of a legacy that's simple, yet complicated

After dealing Kevin Durant to the Rockets on Sunday, the Suns picked up Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, five second-round picks, and the centerpiece of the deal, the No. 10 overall pick in this week’s draft.

Trading Durant leaves a hole in the Suns’ frontcourt, as they not only lost their starting power forward, but they still could be looking to upgrade at center as well.

Will the Suns look to upgrade their defense? Will they take a traditional big man? Who will they pair with Devin Booker?

Here is what NBA mock drafts are projecting the Suns will do with the No. 10 overall pick they acquired after trading Durant.

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reports the Suns also acquired the No. 59 overall pick in this week’s draft, but we’re not including it in mock drafts that did not list that pick as a Suns’ selection.

2025 NBA mock draft roundup: Phoenix Suns

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony

10. PF/C Collin Murray-Boyles, South Carolina

Key stats: 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 58.6 FG%, 26.5 3FG%

NBA teams say Murray-Boyles rates historically well in their draft models, thanks to his strong passing, foul-drawing ability, 2-point shooting, defensive playmaking and youth, which will appeal to several teams in this range.

Murray-Boyles’ toughness, unselfishness, defensive versatility and playmaking give him a high floor, even if his lack of size and perimeter shooting might make him a situational fit in certain lineup configurations.

29. C Ryan Kalkbrenner, Creighton

Key stats: 19.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.7 blocks, 0.5 steals, 65.3 FG%, 34.4 3FG%

The 23-year-old Kalkbrenner, a four-time Big East defensive player of the year, looks more ready to help a team on the interior than most players in this draft range, being one of the best shot blockers in this class. The Suns will likely continue to be active in the coming days and could continue to make moves with their roster and increasing trove of first- and second-round picks, providing them significantly more flexibility than they’ve had as of late.

52. G Alijah Martin, Florida

Key stats: 14.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 45.2 FG%, 35 3FG%

CBS Sports’ Colin Ward-Henninger

10. C Khaman Maluach, Duke

Key stats: 8.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 1.3 blocks, 71.2 FG%, 25 3FG%

At 7-2 with a 7-7 wingspan, the rim-running, shot-blocking Maluach threads that needle beautifully, and can become a necessary lob threat as Devin Booker and Jalen Green break down defenses. Maluach has great instincts for someone who picked up basketball relatively late, and the 18-year-old will only improve on both ends of the floor as he matures.

29. SF Adou Thiero, Arkansas

Key stats: 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 steals, 54.5 FG%, 25.6 3FG%

… An elite defensive prospect who lacks polish on the offensive end. His inability to consistently knock down 3s will likely prevent him from staying on the court for long stretches, but the Suns will need all the perimeter defense they can get with Devin Booker and Jalen Green in the backcourt. And if his offense develops, we’re talking about a potential starter down the road.

CBS Sports’ Adam Finkelstein

10. PF/C Collin Murray-Boyles, South Carolina

Key stats: 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 58.6 FG%, 26.5 3FG%

Phoenix should be focused on the frontcourt where Murray-Boyles could potentially step right in. CMB is long, strong, very smart, a good rebounder, impactful on both ends of the floor and versatile definitely. If the shooting ever comes on, he could have real value here.

29. SF Drake Powell, North Carolina

Key stats: 7.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals, 48.3 FG%, 37.9 3FG%

Rasheer Fleming may make some sense here, but if they want to take a long-term swing, Powell could interest them. The offense is a major work in progress, but the defense is good and if the shooting potential ever clicks then he’s a valuable 3-and-D wing for the next decade-plus in the league.

The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie

10. C Derik Queen, Maryland

Key stats: 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.1 blocks, 1.1 steals 52.6 FG%, 20 3FG%

Queen has come up in a few conversations as one to watch for here with the Suns, and it makes sense. He’s an incredibly skilled big who can dribble and pass at a high level as a creator. Defensively, he’ll be asked to do far more than he was at Maryland in the NBA and put in disadvantageous positions. Queen will need to work incredibly hard to become more capable on that end and even then, may not hit a high level because he lacks great physical traits. But some scouts see the idea of a playmaking center in the Alperen Şengün mold, a productive player who will average 20 points and 10 rebounds for a long time.

29. C Maxime Raynaud, Stanford

Key stats: 20.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.4 blocks, 0.9 steals, 46.7 FG%, 34.7 3FG%

The key will be on defense, where Raynaud does not move particularly well and could be a liability in space. He had a terrific combine game in front of several NBA scouts, but some NBA executives in attendance pointed out that he played against the least-developed player in attendance in Croatian teenager Michael Ruzic. … Raynaud would give them something they don’t have as a skilled big who can dribble, pass and shoot.

52. G Koby Brea, Kentucky

Key stats: 11.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 47 FG%, 43.5 3FG%

59. C Amari Williams, Kentucky

Key stats: 10.9 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.2 blocks, 0.6 steals, 56.1 FG%, 25 3FG%

10. PG Nolan Traore, France

Key stats: 11.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 39.2 FG%, 30.4 3FG%

29. G Jase Richardson, Michigan State

Key stats: 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 49.3 FG%, 41.2 3FG%

52. SF Kobe Sanders, Nevada

Key stats: 15.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 46 FG%, 34.2 3FG%

Fansided’s Christopher Kline

10. PF/C Collin Murray-Boyles, South Carolina

Key stats: 16.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 58.6 FG%, 26.5 3FG%

Collin Murray-Boyles improved across the board as a sophomore despite a mediocre supporting cast at South Carolina. Concerns about the jump shot are real but overblown, as Murray-Boyles’ tank-like physicality, balletic footwork and soft touch make him a dominant scorer on the interior. He’s a smothering, versatile defender, a legitimate playmaking hub in the frontcourt, and a unique — but viable — star bet in a top-heavy class.

29. F Rasheer Fleming, Saint Joseph’s

Key stats: 14.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 53.1 FG%, 39 3FG%

He’s a long, rangy defender who can envelope shot attempts as a weak-side rim protector and smother guards with his length on switches. Offensively, Fleming is a proficient spot-up shooter and a potent lob threat, with just enough straight-line juice to beat closeouts and collapse a defense. He’s limited as a passer and probably tops out as a star in his role, but Fleming’s skill set is tailored for today’s game.

52. G Chucky Hepburn, Louisville

Key stats: 16.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 43.2 FG%, 32.8 3FG%

He’s one of the sharpest lead guards in the draft, nixing defenders with jitterbug handles and confidently pulling the strings to set up teammates or his own scoring opportunities. While not the most efficient scorer, Hepburn drives with a purpose and gets to the foul line, and he’s confident spraying pull-ups out to the 3-point line. While undersized, he’s a menace on defense and could buck the usual trends for small guards in the NBA.

SB Nation’s Ricky O’Donnell

10. G Jase Richardson, Michigan State

Key stats: 12.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 49.3 FG%, 41.2 3FG%

Collin Murray-Boyles would be an excellent fit for a team that desperately needs more of a defensive presence. Derik Queen would be a high-upside gamble on starpower, and he could form a fun 1-2 scoring punch with Devin Booker. Noa Essengue would be a bet on a super young forward with great tools who can grow with the organization over time.

My bold prediction is that the Suns will target Jase Richardson, because their Michigan State bias is just that strong.

29. G Ben Saraf, Ratiopharm Ulm

Key stats: 12.8 points, 4.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 42 FG%
