The first Test of the five-match series between the India National Cricket Team and the England National Cricket Team got underway on Friday, June 20, at Headingley in Leeds.
Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal after India were invited to bat first in the match. He looked solid in the middle and continued his good form.
Meanwhile, the conditions were not tough to bat on Day 1 in Leeds, and Rahul, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, made the most of it. The opening duo provided India with a great start and stitched up an excellent partnership. They added 91 runs for the opening wicket before Rahul fell in the 25th over.
The ball went flying towards Joe Root in the slips, and the England legend grabbed a sharp catch around chest high in reverse-cup style. KL Rahul was absolutely furious with himself after getting out, and he kicked the air in frustration. He walked off the field disappointed with 42 runs off 78 balls, including 8 fours, under his belt.

Notably, Rahul and Jaiswal's 91-run stand was the fourth highest for India in the first innings of the first Test of an away tour. Also, they became the first pair since Graeme Smith and Alviro Petersen (120-run stand in 2012) to register a 50-plus opening partnership in the first innings of a Leeds Test.
