A Tennessee pitcher is opting for the transfer portal after 3 seasons with the Volunteers. Andrew Behnke is the latest portal entrant of note, per Mike Wilson of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Behnke departs Rocky Top after making 43 appearances for Tony Vitello’s squad. He had his best season in 2024 and struggled during 2025.
In 2023, Behnke logged just 6 appearances, totaling 5.2 innings of work. Behnke did not allow a run in his limited work that season.
Behnke put up solid numbers in 2024. He made 23 appearances in Tennessee’s national championship season, recording 28 IP. Behnke posted an ERA of 3.54 last season (11 earned runs) and WHIP of 1.14 (23 hits, 9 walks). With 39 strikeouts, his K-BB ratio was 39-9. He faced 123 batters last season, with opponents hitting .213.
This season, Behnke could not find the same success. His workload dropped to 50 batters faced (.238 average) over 12.1 innings in 14 appearances. His ERA increased to 5.11 as a he allowed 7 earned runs on 10 hits while walking 3 and striking out 6.
Behnke made his final appearance on May 30, pitching 2 innings against Miami (Ohio). We’ll see what’s next for the 5-10, 183-pound lefthander with multiple seasons of SEC experience.
