ROCHESTER, N.Y. – So far this year we’ve dodged any super muggy weather, but that is changing soon. Dew points today will rise to the 70 degree mark, making the air feel tropical. Our high temperature today will be in the mid 80s, but that humidity will make things feel as though we’re near 90 degrees. All this heat and humidity will help to form some showers and thunderstorms today. An area of convection over Ontario this morning may briefly move into our area, causing a few light to moderate showers around 9am. Mostly cloudy conditions follow with rising temperatures and humidity, then in the afternoon we’ll have some scattered showers and thunderstorms. The atmospheric conditions are not favorable for any storms to become severe, so we’re keeping it Green on the Threat Tracker. Rain chances continue through the evening, then we’ll get a break before some possible overnight thunder.
Showers and thunderstorms continue Thursday morning as a cold front draws near. While there is a fringe chance we could get an isolated strong to severe storm, the real focus will be on areas east of us; in Eastern New York and western New England. So, we’ll stay Green on the Threat Tracker for tomorrow, unless the atmospheric setup starts to look more dicey. Stay tuned for updates. What will be more noticeable tomorrow is the wind. Gusts will be out of the southwest up to 30 MPH, then when the cold front passes winds shift to the northwest and die down overnight.
Friday looks good, then this weekend the heat and humidity really starts to ramp up. Dew points will rise near 75 degrees Sunday and Monday, which will bring the heat index near or above 100 degrees! Same goes for Tuesday as well. While there are no heat advisories currently, that may change. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and try not to do any strenuous outdoor work early next week. Monday through Wednesday will likely all see 90+ degree weather.
