Diego Pavia rips the Big Ten, says he ‘ignored’ transfer opportunities ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia had a lot to say during an interview on Bussin’ with the Boys this week.

In addition to making comments about Vanderbilt’s future and his NIL offers after the 2024 season, Pavia took some jabs at the quality of play in the Big Ten. Pavia was asked by hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, who both played for Big Ten programs, if he fielded calls from Big Ten teams this offseason about a prospective transfer.

“You want to play with the best, you don’t want to play with the Big Ten,” Pavia said. “You ignore those calls.”

Pavia then went on to explain the difference between playing a loaded SEC schedule versus a Big Ten slate that may only include a couple of elite teams.

“The Big Ten, you have like Ohio State, Oregon … Michigan, Penn State,” Pavia said. “The SEC, you got all dogs. You really only have 4 games a year [in the Big Ten]. The SEC, it’s like week after week after week. Like, you’re going to get beat on. The Big Ten, you’re not getting beat on with Purdue, Nebraska …”

The Vanderbilt quarterback also took a shot at Iowa after one of the hosts mentioned the Hawkeyes as tough competition in the Big Ten.

“You only have to score 7 points to beat Iowa,” Pavia said.

Pavia also made the case that the SEC has better players in the trenches than the Big Ten, particularly in the pass-rushing department.

“The trenches, too, in the SEC are just different,” Pavia said. “Let’s think about this. The best pass rushers are from the SEC. Except for Abdul Carter, like you’ll find one or two [in the Big Ten].”

Pavia and Vanderbilt won’t face a Big Ten team during the regular season this year, but perhaps he’ll have a case to prove his point during bowl season.
