PITTSFORD, N.Y. — A Pittsford Sutherland High School girl’s soccer player is being recognized as News10NBC’s Scholar Athlete of the Week. Lizzie Riley, a striker and center midfielder for the Knights, has been lighting up the scoreboard this season.
News10NBC’s Cailey Thalman caught up with Riley earlier this week to learn more about her success on the field.
If there’s one thing Riley knows how to do, it’s score goals. The standout player has been a key contributor for Pittsford Sutherland throughout the season.
“I think I just try to lead through my actions, and through encouragement from my teammates. I might not be the most loud or like vocal person on the field, but I’ll always be there to support my teammates,” said Riley.
Adam Palumbo, Pittsford Sutherland’s head coach, has watched Riley develop into one of the team’s top players. Her performance has helped the Knights compete at a high level this season.
“She leads by her play, and she just has an amazing attitude and effort and she’s a competitor. But she does it with a positive attitude, which is contagious for everyone,” Palumbo explained.
Riley’s recognition as Scholar Athlete of the Week highlights both her athletic ability and academic achievements. The honor reflects her dedication to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
