VACAVILLE — The investigation started last year, when police here received a tip that a missing teen girl was being advertised on a prostitution website, court records show.
Now, a 35-year-old man is behind bars in Sacramento, facing a charge that carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison. In an indictment handed down May 22, Deonte Morgan was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, and a judge has ordered him detained while the case is pending.
Police say they found video evidence that Morgan was sexually abusing the girl, in addition to allegedly trafficking her.
Morgan was arrested at a Vallejo hotel, after an undercover sting led to his arrest and the recovery of the girl, according to the criminal complaint. Investigators say they set up the undercover operation when Vacaville police received a tip that the missing girl’s pictures were in an online prostitution ad, prompting a police officer to pose as a sex buyer and arrange a meeting.
A surveillance team went to the hotel and spotted Morgan and the alleged victim there, according to court records. A search of Morgan’s phone yielded a video file that depicted Morgan sexually abusing the girl, authorities allege.
