With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announcing their Test retirement last month, Iyer was widely expected to be a part of the inexperienced Indian Test team. However, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel decided to extend Shreyas Iyer's exile from the Test side by ignoring him for the upcoming series as well.

The Mumbai star enjoyed a stellar campaign in this year's IPL as well. He scored 604 runs and led Punjab Kings to the IPL final.
Sourav Ganguly praises Shreyas Iyer:
Ganguly spoke about Iyer in a conversation with RevSportz when he was reminded about his post for the batsman in March this year. In his social media post, Ganguly had praised Iyer and said that the batter was ready for all formats.
"He is now scoring under pressure, taking responsibility, playing the short ball well. Although Test cricket’s different, I would have had him in this series to see what he can do," Ganguly told RevSportz.
