The twin sister of Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell passed away this week, according to police.
Kierston Russell, who was expected to join her brother as a student at the University of Alabama in the fall, died Wednesday according to Tuscaloosa Police.
According to a statement from Tuscaloosa Police obtained by ESPN, her death is not considered to be a criminal matter at this time. Police told ESPN on Thursday that no other information will be released at this time and said the family is asking for privacy.
Both Keelon and Kierston went through a graduation ceremony at Duncanville High School this spring. On Thursday, the Duncanville Pantherettes basketball team shared this tribute on social media:
“With shattered hearts, we mourn the loss of our sister and teammate, Kierston Russell,” the message says. “A fierce competitor with a heart of gold— hear light, love and legacy will live on.”

The former 5-star quarterback has been competing for the starting quarterback job at Alabama since he arrived in the spring. The competition, which also includes Ty Simpson and Austin Mack, is expected to extend into fall camp.
