A second man believed involved in the murder of a Point Arena man two years ago was recently arrested in Los Angeles, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to the MCSO, a Gualala resident identified as Edgar Arteaga Coria, 44, is one of two men suspected in the murder of Jesus Joel Romero, a 32-year-old Point Arena resident, in September of 2023.
On Sept 24, 2023, the MCSO reported that deputies were dispatched to Point Arena after a caller reported shortly after 2 a.m. that “their family member (adult male) had been physically assaulted” several hours earlier while at a bar in Point Arena.”
After arriving in the city, the deputies reported finding the man “on Ten Mile Cut Off Road, a significant distance away from the bar. The adult male was obviously deceased and the condition of his body led deputies to believe that he was the victim of a homicide.”
While investigating the crime, the MCSO reports that sheriff’s detectives “developed the identities of two adult males as persons of interest in this homicide investigation,” including Antonio Coria Garcia, 23, of Gualala, who reportedly requested contact with MCSO personnel.
“During the contact, Sheriff’s Detectives established probable cause to believe Coria Garcia was involved in the killing of the adult male victim. As a result, Coria Garcia was booked into the Mendocino County Jail,” the MCSO reported in an updated press release, also noting that the victim had been identified as Jesus Joel Romero, and that “preliminary body observations suggest Romero died as the result of multiple gunshot wounds.”
Another updated press release identified the second suspect as Edgar Arteaga Coria of Gualala, who this month was reportedly arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department.
In their latest update, the MCSO reports that in January of 2025, an LAPD Investigator reported that it was “believed that Edgar Coria was currently in the Los Angeles area and living under the alias Jaime Baltazar Ramirez. At the time, Ramirez (Coria) was named as a suspect in a burglary case. LAPD, with assistance from a liaison with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), were able to determine that Ramirez was actually Edgar Coria, who was currently wanted for murder in Mendocino County.”
Then last week, MCSO detectives reported receiving “a call from the original LAPD Investigator who advised they had just made a traffic stop and believed they had Edgar Coria in custody. After a short conversation, Coria was positively identified and booked into an LAPD detention facility on the felony homicide warrant from Mendocino County.”
The MCSO then reports that MCSO detectives, “assisted by a bilingual patrol deputy, immediately responded to the LAPD detention facility and conducted an interview with Coria, (who was later) transported to the Mendocino County Jail on 03/20/2025, where he is to be held on $1,000,000 bail for the charge of 187 PC (Murder) and other charging enhancements.”
The MCSO expressed gratitude to “all the allied agencies for their assistance during this investigation.”
