Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini said he is still confident in ASU’s men’s basketball head coach Bobby Hurley and the team despite their 3-10 conference record.
Rossini joined Arizona Sports’ Burns and Gambo Thursday and said he is confident in the team turning it around this season and that he won’t review Hurley’s end of the year performance until after the season.
“Bobby Hurley is our coach until he is not our coach,” Rossini said. “It’s not a black and white conversation. I’m of the opinion that there is a lot of season left and I believe in coach and this team and what we are capable of accomplishing here at ASU.”

Following ASU’s double overtime loss to Texas Tech on Wednesday, Rossini wasn’t discouraged by the final result and that he’s encouraged about the team’s effort against one of the top teams in the country.
“It was another game where we were in it until the final seconds and I do think we are close to turning it around,” Rossini said. “We just go to keep pouring energy and support in it. I still believe in lot in this program and this roster. Last night, we were a second or two away from a really signature road win that didn’t happen but we are going to quickly rally for TCU on Saturday.”
Rossini said the expectations for the program and the rest of ASU athletics is to make NCAA tournaments and compete for championships. Rossini added it’s a tall order for any college coach to meet expectations.
“I think it’s unfair we put all of the pressure of expectations on the coach,” Rossini said. “What we ask a head coach to do in this version of college athletics is damn near impossible.
“We got to look at the entire department and figure out where we have a disconnect in terms of our ability to prepare men’s basketball or any of our programs to compete at the highest possible level.”
