Roses are red,Violets are more, San Diego high school students will showcase their poetry skills in the regional division of the Poetry Out Loud national competition on Feb. 4.

The city of San Diego is partnering with the National Poetry Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the California Arts Council, and Write Out Loud for the regional competition.

The following schools will compete:

Academy of Our Lady of Peace in San Diego; Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego; Pacific Ridge High School in Carlsbad; and Valley Center High School in Valley Center. 

A winner will advance to the state finals in Sacramento with a chance to compete for the national title in Washington, DC.

The competition is free and open to the public from 6 to 7:30 pm at the San Diego Central Library’s Neil Morgan Auditorium.

Attendees can also join virtually.
