Orange County boys, girls wrestling teams advance to CIF-SS dual meet finals ...Middle East

Santa Ana’s boys and girls wrestling teams advanced to the finals of the CIF Southern Section Dual Meet Championships this past weekend.

Both Saints teams are home for the dual meet finals Thursday. The girls team wrestles El Toro in the Division 2 final at 5 p.m., followed by the Saints boys competing against Peninsula in the Division 6 final at 7 p.m.

Santa Ana’s top-seeded boys team beat Santa Margarita 51-13 in the Division 6 quarterfinals before a 44-30 victory over Coachella Valley in the semifinals.

The top-seeded Saints girls had a first-round bye before beating Orange Vista in the quarterfinals and Hemet in the semifinals.

The Aliso Niguel and Esperanza boys wrestling teams also advanced to the division finals, as did Marina’s girls team.

Marina’s girls team will be on the road Thursday against Corona in Division 1 at 7 p.m.

In the boys Division 1 final Wednesday at 7 p.m., Mayfair will be at St. John Bosco.

Esperanza’s boys will host the Division 2 final Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Centennial of Corona.

During Saturday’s preliminary competition, top-seeded Esperanza had a first-round bye before beating Yucaipa 64-9 in the quarterfinals and Chaparral 67-6 in the semifinals.

The Aztecs are led by freshman Sammy Sanchez, who is ranked No. 1 in the state at 106 pounds by Calgrappler.com.

Aliso Niguel will be at South Torrance in the Division 4 final on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Aliso Niguel won close outcomes in all three preliminary rounds, including a 37-35 win over Arroyo in the semifinals.

Los Alamitos and Sonora advanced to the Division 3 boys semifinals Saturday but both teams lost in that round.

Servite lost to Temecula Valley 48-23 in the first round of Division 1. The Friars were the only Orange County team in the Division 1 duals.

Fountain Valley, the highest-ranked Orange County boys wrestling team in the Calgrappler.com state rankings at No. 7, chose not to compete in the dual meet championships.

Admission to the dual meet finals is $7 for children and students and $14 for adults and can be purchased only through GoFan.co.

The CIF-SS Individual Wrestling Championships are Feb. 14 and 15.
