The 2024 MLS Cup final was a historic match that will be remembered for years to come. Inter Miami put on a dominant display against Orlando City, securing a resounding 5-0 victory to claim their first-ever MLS Cup title.
From the opening whistle, Inter Miami asserted their dominance on the field, controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Their attacking prowess was on full display as they scored five goals in a clinical fashion, leaving Orlando City's defense helpless.
Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored twice, respectively, Robert Taylor also got on the scoresheet as Miami thrashed Orlando City 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
Orlando’s first of the season, put the Lions winless in their first two games of the regular season following last weekend’s scoreless draw against Montreal.
Messi had consecutive goals during a quick span early in the second half. It was his first two-goal game in MLS action.
The 37-year-old Súarez became the latest ex-Barcelona teammate to join Messi at Inter Miami and made an immediate impact in his third MLS match. Suárez also had two assists.
Inter Miami’s next game is Thursday against Nashville SC in the first of two legs in the CONCACAF Champions Cup round of 16. Messi and Inter Miami beat Nashville to win the Leagues Cup title last August. 
Messi’s workload will be considerably high with five Inter Miami matches and two matches with the Argentine national team in the next three weeks. But Inter Miami has put itself in a good spot early, sitting on top of the MLS standings after earning seven of nine possible points from its three matches. 
Luis Suárez, who crossed back-post for Messi to nod past goalkeeper Pedro Gallese. In the first half, Suárez scored a brace of his own.
In the Herons' young 2024 season, Messi now has 3g/2a in three matches. They'll return to action Thursday, starting their 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup campaign at Nashville SC (9 pm ET).
Replacement officials have worked the first three weeks of MLS matches after the league and the Professional Soccer Referees Association could not reach a collective bargaining agreement. With the lockout ongoing, the Professional Referee Organization was handling officials’ assignments for the league.
