On a thrilling Sunday afternoon, the Daytona 500 once again proved why it is known as the "Great American Race". The 2022 edition of this iconic event saw young driver William Byron emerge victorious, capturing his first-ever win at the prestigious race.
Byron's victory was a culmination of skill, strategy, and determination. Throughout the race, he showcased his talent behind the wheel, navigating through intense competition and challenging conditions. His team's flawless execution of pit stops and race tactics also played a crucial role in securing the win.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s triumph in 2014. It marked the first Hendrick 1-2 in the “Great American Race” since Jimmie Johnson bested Earnhardt to the stripe in 2013.
Byron just beat out teammate Alex Bowman as the two raced for the lead as Ross Chastain and Austin Cindric spun behind them as the field crossed the start-finish line for the white flag lap.
It's the first Daytona 500 win for Byron, who is becoming one of the sport's stars in his 20s.
The finish was controversial given the timing of the incident and the caution being put out, but should it have gone differently for NASCAR?

“I just gave him a hug and told him I’m proud of him and said that you know, we’re gonna be doing a lot of these Daytona 500s together,” Marks said after the two met in the No. 1 team’s hauler. “We’re going to have a lot of opportunities to win this race. I think everybody at Trackhouse, we do a pretty good job of managing our expectations and knowing that these races always come down to a game of millimeters at the end, and you have to shoot your shot. You have to go for it. I’m glad that he did. He’s in really good spirits. Probably already thinking about Atlanta.”
