Newcastle’s transfer Lewis Hall for around £30 million

Chelsea have put teenager Lewis Hall up for sale but are asking for around £30 million amid interest from Newcastle United.

The club’s unprecedented spending on fees over the last three transfer windows – Chelsea have spent in excess of £900 million and have broken the British transfer record twice in eight months – has brought pressure to generate sales.

Academy graduates from the Cobham system at the club’s training ground in Surrey, so prodigious in recent years in developing first-team ready and saleable assets, are expected to make up some of that deficit. They represent pure profit in financial fair play consideration – the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules – that the club will have to submit to the league.

Premier League debut for the Blues last season and would go on to make nine appearances in the top flight.

Hall has already shown his versatility early in his career, capable of playing at full-back and in midfield, which will be appealing to Magpies boss Eddie Howe.

Despite being given a path to the first team at Stamford Bridge and signing a new contract which runs till 2030, an exit is looking increasingly likely.

ewcastle United fan and is keen to move to St James’ Park, especially with the potential of playing regular first team football, including in the Champions League. Lewis Hall can play left-back, left wing-back and even midfield, that versatility potentially making him an ideal Eddie Howe signing.

Lewis Hall turns 19 in September and last season only started eight Premier League matches, the last of those was against Newcastle United when arguably Chelsea’s best player in the 1-1 draw in May.

He looked excellent that day but it doesn’t look like Pochettino agrees, Lewis Hall was an unused sub in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle in Atlanta this summer and wasn’t even in the matchday squad on Sunday when Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool.

The Athletic say that now Chelsea are willing to sell and want around £35m for the academy graduate.

They also point to the Chelsea boss having a lot of other options at left-back and let wing-back, with Ben Chilwell backed up by Ian Maatsen and Marc Cucurella, with Ishe Samuels-Smith recently recruited from Everton.
