I meditate each night. I’m increasing my exercise level. I’m adjusting what I eat. I’ve become more focused on my health. I’ve stopped watching the news as often as I used to. I limit social media. So, why in God’s name am I still so freakin’ anxious? Sure, I’ve never been this age before; that might account for some of it — but this unease doesn’t feel “organic.” Instead, you know how sometimes you get an itch in your throat that’s causing you to cough and there’s nothing you can do about it? You can’t put a fork down there and scratch it. You swallow a lot. You try and distract yourself. Nothing really works. So, you just feel uncomfortable until it passes. THAT is kind of like what I feel
