Syrians flocked to their embassy in Lebanon on Thursday for an early vote in their country’s presidential election, as pro-regime voters were attacked in and around Beirut. Thousands arrived at the embassy in Baabda, a town in the hills southeast of Beirut, to take part in the election which will see Syrian President Bashar al-Assad run for a fourth time. The election in Syria is scheduled to take place on May 26. The voters, who arrived in buses and cars from across Lebanon, held pictures of Assad, waved Syrian and pro-Syrian party flags, and chanted slogans in support of the Syrian president.
