The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced Wednesday that its Contributor Subcommittee has narrowed an original field of 42 nominees down to five for the Class of 2027. McCaskey, who owned the Bears from 1983 until she died in 2025 at age 102, is one of them.
She’s joined by Ralph Hay, Robert Kraft, Doug Williams and John Wooten. The subcommittee will meet virtually on Nov. 17 and pick one of the five to advance to the full Selection Committee, which will decide the final class early next year.

Here are the five names on the ballot, including the late McCaskey:
Virginia McCaskey: Principal owner of the Bears for more than four decades and the daughter of founder George Halas. Her tenure included the Super Bowl XX title and a run of five straight division championships. Ralph Hay: Owned the Canton Bulldogs from 1918 to 1922 and hosted the meeting at his car dealership in downtown Canton where the league was formed. Halas was there, too, representing the Decatur Staleys. Robert Kraft: Has owned the Patriots since 1994. His teams have won six Super Bowls and played in 11 over the past 31 seasons, and he’s been a key figure on several influential owners’ committees. Doug Williams: Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 340 yards and four touchdowns against the Broncos to finish the 1987 season. He has spent the past 13 seasons in Washington’s front office after earlier front office and scouting jobs with the Jaguars and Buccaneers. John Wooten: Played offensive line for 10 seasons, then spent close to 30 years in scouting and personnel roles with the Cowboys, Eagles and Ravens. He became chair of the Fritz Pollard Alliance in 2003, a group that works to expand opportunities for minorities in coaching and front office jobs. He and Hay were both in this final group last year, and Kraft got the subcommittee’s nod to move on to the selection meeting. He’s back in the pool, so he didn’t make it into the Class of 2026. McCaskey, Williams, and Wooten have also gone deep in past cycles.
Only one name from the contributors category can emerge from the Nov. 17 meeting. That contributor joins 13 players and one coach as the 15 finalists the Selection Committee will consider before Super Bowl LXI.
The rules also look different this time around. As we covered in September, the Hall cut its selection committee from 50 voters to 28 (25 voting members and three alternates), combined the modern-era and seniors player pools into one, and brought back in-person voting for the final round. Finalists still need 80 percent of the vote to get in, and each class will have between three and seven members.
The Class of 2027 will be announced at NFL Honors in Los Angeles in February and enshrined in Canton next August.
