Actor Bailey Chase says it was the proposed COVID vaccine mandates in California that made him pick up and move his family to North Carolina.
Chase, 54, is best known for roles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Longmire, The Rookie, and Saving Grace. But the actor, who stars in the upcoming season of Homestead: The Series, just shared why he decided to ditch Los Angeles and bring his family to the South. Ultimately, it was concerns over how California’s COVID-19 restrictions would impact his children that led him to say goodbye to Los Angeles.
“Things started to not work in LA during COVID – they shut down the schools; there were no sports for the kids,” he told Fox News Digital. “Really, no life, no work. And it became more and more obvious that we should leave LA.”
In a previous appearance on the “Undaunted.Life: A Man’s Podcast,” Chase spoke out about his issues with California’s proposed vaccine mandate as it applied to his children’s return to school.
“At that time, you know, they’re 4, 4 and 6 years old,” he shared. “I got two young girls and, you know, we don’t need to go down that rabbit hole.”
Ultimately, he decided that was the final straw.
“I was like, ‘No, I just don’t know enough,'” he added. “And I got one job right now, and it’s to take care of these little nuggets. That’s the most important job I have right now.”
The Decision to Leave Los Angeles

While the mandate never took effect, Chase had already decided it was time to leave. After deciding their time was done in Los Angeles, Chase and his wife, Amy, decided to head back to her native state, North Carolina.
“Amy’s very close with her parents, who are in N.C.,” he continued to FOX. “Everything’s about seven minutes away: school, the in-laws, the grocery store, golf course, soccer field. It’s a great location. We live in a house that would not have been affordable in LA.” He said life there is “a kid’s dream. There’s a sports court and a pool. We have two golden retriever puppies, so it’s a full and lively house.”
