“I know that winning an election doesn’t make your rent cheaper or lower your grocery bill. It doesn’t make finding affordable childcare easier. But that’s what the next four years are for. To finish what we started with bold ambition and a sense of urgency,” Hochul said.
Both Hochul and Blakeman visited the Rochester area several times during the campaign trail, where affordability was a major topic. Blakeman spoke about his campaign promise of “cutting utility rates in half.” He also sat down with News10NBC’s Lynette Adams to talk about his campaign stances on Rochester in Focus.
Hochul visited Rochester to speak about the state’s utility rebate check program to counter energy costs. The state is working to mail checks for up to $200 to around 8.2 million households. News10NBC’s Jennifer Lewke also pressed the governor on the high ticket prices at the Buffalo Bills’ new stadium, which $600 million in state taxpayer money contributed to.
In the New York Attorney General’s race, Democrat Letitia James, who has held the role since 2019, is also projected to win re-election. She unofficially has 60% of the votes, compared to 40% for her Republican challenger Saritha Komatireddy. Komatireddy is a former prosecutor and national security expert who has taught at Columbia Law School.
New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is also projected to win re-election. DiNapoli, who has held the role since 2007, has 65% of the votes unofficially, compared to 35% for his Republican challenger Joseph Hernandez. Hernandez is an entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, and biotechnology leader.
