Early voting in the 2026 election in Illinois surpassed the numbers seen during early voting in the 2022 election, according to recent data.
Numbers provided to NBC News showed 1.6 million people voted in Illinois for the 2026 Midterms, compared to 1.4 million in 2022. That marks a 14% increase.
It’s a theme that was seen across other Midwest states.
In Wisconsin, a more than 10% increase was seen from 2022 early voting numbers to 2026, where 796,600 early votes were cast.
In Indiana, 885,100 votes were recorded during early voting in 2026 compared to just 675,000. That marked a more than 34% increase in the state.
Meanwhile, in-person voter turnout on Election Day in Chicago also surpassed numbers from March’s Primary Election in Illinois, according to the Chicago State Board of Elections.
Roughly 211,657 votes had been cast by 12 p.m. CT Tuesday at precincts across the city, compared to 102,775 in March, the board of elections reported.
Polling places remain open until 7 p.m., and anyone in line when they close will still be able to cast their vote.
