IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — Irondequoit’s supervisor says the town is cracking down on short-term rental violations after the police broke up large crowds at three locations on Halloween night.
Irondequoit Police broke up a crowd of partygoers near a permitted short-term rental on Fairlea Drive and called in an RTS bus to help disperse them. Town Supervisor John Perticone says the town has since suspended the home’s short-term rental permit and plans to revote it. A viewer shared video a crowd gathered on Fairlea Drive on Halloween night.
Police also broke up crowds twice on Madison Terrace near a home with a pending rental application. Perticone says the town has denied that application and notified the owners. In addition, police broke up a crowd on Nixon Drive.
Irondequoit leaders enacted stricter code rules about short-term rentals in September of 2025. In a statement, Perticone said homeowners have a right to rent their property to others, but not violate town code:
“We understand that everyone wants to celebrate holidays, in this instance, Halloween. We also recognize that property owners have the right to use their property and earn additional income, as long as they are operating within the Town Code. However, neighbors have rights, too. Our code explicitly prohibits ‘Any conduct on the premises, which disturbs the health, safety, peace or comfort of the neighborhood or which otherwise creates a public nuisance.’ Let me be clear: if you are violating this, or any other provision of Town Code, we will hold you accountable.”
