Kelly Ripa wasn’t about to let a certain topic take over the morning conversation on Live With Kelly and Mark without a fight.
The daytime host revealed on Tuesday, November 3, that a “big fight” broke out backstage after producers suggested discussing Dictionary.com’s word of the year during the show’s opening host chat. Ripa, 56, made it clear she wasn’t exactly on board with the selection.
“Do you want to hear about the word of the year, everybody? We had a big fight backstage,” Ripa told the audience. “Oh, we had quite a fight.”
The word in question was “maxxing,” which Ripa admitted wouldn’t have been her choice if she’d had a say in the matter.
“I wouldn’t have picked this word,” she said, prompting a surprised audience member to respond, “What?”
“Correct, thank you,” Ripa replied, seemingly finding an ally in the crowd.

Co-host and husband Mark Consuelos, 55, also weighed in, calling looksmaxxing “stupid” and suggesting people “should probably do less of that” in the first place.
However, Consuelos eventually warmed up to some of the variations, particularly “proteinmaxxing,” which caught his attention as a gym enthusiast.
“I kind of like it now!” he admitted.
Ripa, meanwhile, wasn’t ready to embrace the trend. By the end of the segment, she had come up with her own variation to describe the audience’s reaction to the discussion: “Everybody-checked-outmaxxing.”
She then joked that she had watched “an entire audience of people go to sleepmaxxing.”
While the segment may have ended with a laugh, Ripa’s backstage disagreement made one thing clear: She wasn’t initially convinced that “maxxing” deserved the spotlight on the morning show.
