Happy Victory Tuesday! The Jeff Effect, Sky High Vibes, Rome Keeps Building, QB1 Shines Again

It’s a Bears Victory Tuesday around here! Also, it’s Election Day. If you’re reading this, are eligible to vote, and haven’t done so yet, you should get around to changing it. And if you cast your ballot for Jeffery Simmons to hold office, I don’t think I can blame you after what we saw last night.

BEARS WIN! Instant Player Grades | Bears Make Primetime Statement | “Good, Better, Best!”

On July 31, 2016, I watched the Chicago Cubs beat the Seattle Mariners on Sunday Night Baseball in a game that was so weird and wild that it sparked my brain to believe that this was the year the Northsiders would finally win the World Series. And they did. Ten years later, perhaps fittingly enough on the 10thanniversary of the Cubs’ World Series win, I watched the Chicago Bears beat the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football in a way that makes me believe the Bears can win the Super Bowl. The Bears can win the Super Bowl. The Bears can win this year’s Super Bowl. It gives me chills thinking about it. This fun fact (via ESPN) captures how much of a difference-maker Jeffery Simmons was in his Bears debut:

According to Next Gen Stats, the Seahawks were held to 3.0 yards per play (3 sacks, INT) in the 48 plays where Simmons was on the field. In the eight plays where he was off the field, Seattle averaged 13.3 yards per play.

The final stat line for Simmons in his Bears debut: 6 total tackles (3 solo), 1 sack, 1 quarterback hit, 2 tackles-for-loss, 1 hurry, 1 batted pass, 3 stops, and an 82.2 overall defensive grade from Pro Football Focus. That 86.9 pass rush grade from MNF is a sight for sore eyes for those of us who have watched the interior of Chicago’s defensive line struggle to generate pressure and get home to the quarterback with consistency. “So this is what it would have been like had the Bears won Khalil Mack’s debut at Lambeau Field” is a thought I had while walking to the train after leaving Jefferson Tap on Monday night. Maybe we can have a full circle moment if Bears GM Ryan Poles can reacquire Mack ahead of the Nov. 10 NFL Trade Deadline. More on that later.

One of the things I was rooting for on Monday was another strong performance from Rome Odunze. Lost in the madness of all the news that happened during the extended layoff was that Odunze played what I thought was his most complete game as a Bear. He didn’t put up huge catch or yardage totals, but he made clutch catches that moved the chains and contributed as a blocker in big moments to help lift Chicago to a Week 7 victory against the New England Patriots in Week 7. Consistency hasn’t always been there for Odunze in his first three seasons, so to see him follow that Week 7 showing with 4 catches and 87 receiving yards was encouraging. Odunze followed This tweet from Robert Mays truly captures what I’m seeing out of Odunze lately:

Every catch is a 20-yard spear to the defense, and he’s a crazed blocker in an offense that demands it. Vital piece of a terrifying offense. It’s crazy to think he’s not a good player. t.co/hnVAu9O1qA

    — Robert Mays (@robertmays) November 3, 2026 These Bears have a real three-headed monster with Odunze, Colston Loveland, and Luther Burden III. Loveland continued his upswing with a 7-catch, 65-yard game. Every time Loveland builds on his previous week’s performance makes it feel like that slow start was a blip on the radar. As for Burden, he caught 7 passes for 56 yards, and a touchdown on the opening drive that served as one heckuva statement. I’ll try to carve out some time to dive into the numbers later, but anecdotally, there are few players who perform under the bright primetime lights like Burden. As expected, linebacker Devin Bush (5 solo tackles, 1 sack, 1 TFL, 1 QB Hit), Austin Booker (1 pass breakup), and Montez Sweat (1 sack, 1 TFL, 3 QB Hits) made big plays while Jeffery Simmons ate up a ton of attention. Seeing who steps up every week and takes advantage of those opportunities will be something I look forward to in the coming weeks, months, and years while Simmons is on this roster. We can call it The Jeff Effect. A special teams highlight, because this blocked kick swung momentum in the Bears’ favor:

    — Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) November 3, 2026 More MNF fun facts: “The Bears’ 34-17 win in Seattle was their 4th double-digit victory of the season, the most by any NFL team in 2026. Their 17-point win was also Chicago’s largest primetime road victory over a team above .500 since a 38-20 win over the Giants in 2006, the year they advanced to Super Bowl XLI.” (NFL+) ESPN noted that D’Andre Swift is the first Bears player with three rushing touchdowns in a half since Walter Payton did it in 1977. Unbelievable. And shout out to my pal Brendan Sugrue, who shares (via Twitter/X) that Swift is the first Bears player to run for at least 10 touchdowns since Raymont Harris in 1997. If you’ve been reading my writing for long enough, then you know that the Ultraback was one of my first favorite Bears. I light up everytime his name comes up in a Bears conversation. There is so much I want to write about Caleb Williams. But for now, I feel as if sharing this tells you everything you need to know about his performance on MNF:

Passer rating vs Seahawks last 5 weeks Justin Herbert 62.4 Brock Purdy 92.5 Bo Nix 71.1 Patrick Mahomes 58.3 Caleb Williams 101.0 t.co/3LIvAkJxFX

    — PFF (@PFF) November 3, 2026 What’s next for the Bears is yet another primetime affair. This time at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. The Bucs just won one of the weirdest games you’ll ever see. Meanwhile, Chicago is coming off an eye-opening performance against the defending Super Bowl champs. There will be some who cast this as a mismatch, but this is where I’ll chime in to say that no team should be taken lightly in the NFL. Before I leave this post, I want to thank the folks at Ankin Law and everyone who showed up to Jefferson Tap for the Monday Night Football watch party. Those things are always a blast — even more so when the Bears win. It’s cool seeing fresh faces, but it also feels rewarding when you see familiar faces who have attended multiple watch party events because you remember the folks who were there watching with you during the lean times. I look forward to our next one.
