BRIGHTON, N.Y. — The state Department of Environmental Conservation approved the environmental testing plans needed before construction can resume at the stalled athletic fields project at Brighton High School.

In a social media post from the school district, it said crews planned to start additional soil testing last week, and air quality will also be monitored throughout the work. Depending on the test results and any additional approvals, construction could restart this month.
The project to convert grass into artificial turf was halted earlier this year after testing found some mercury, lead, and arsenic in the soil. The project started in January, but two days later, contractors found materials in the soil, including ash, cinder, glass, and metal.

The district will hold a community meeting Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Administration Building on Monroe Avenue to answer any questions.
