SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) -

Big West: Cal Poly 3, UC San Diego 0: Cal Poly volleyball left little doubt Saturday evening about its contention to repeat as Big West champions, closing a two-match road trip with a 25-21, 25-23, 25-14 sweep of UC San Diego at LionTree Arena.

The Mustangs moved to 16-6 overall and 12-0 in Big West play, extending their win streak to 12 matches, a run that sits two victories shy of the program's top-five all-time streaks.

The Mustangs led by no more than a point for most of the opening set before pulling away late. Deadlocked at 20-20, Cal Poly took five of the last six points to end it 25-21. The second set was the tightest of the night, with five ties and two lead changes. UC San Diego drew even at 23-23 on a service ace, but the Mustangs answered with a pair of kills to take the frame.

Cal Poly then broke the third set open early, turning a 9-6 edge into a 25-14 finish. The Mustangs overwhelmed the Tritons, hitting .298 with 43 kills against 12 errors on 104 swings while holding UCSD to a .085 clip (34 kills, 24 errors, 118 attempts).

The net was where Cal Poly did the most damage, collecting 15 total blocks, the team's highest single-match total this season and the most by the program since recording 17 at VCU in September 2023. Leluge racked up nine block assists, one shy of tying her career high, and Pulling added six total blocks (one solo, five assists).

Alexis Haury set up 34 assists and tallied 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Fredrick put down a match-high 18 kills on .378 hitting to go with four digs. Fredrick's night capped a productive weekend in which she totaled 35 kills across the two matches for a whopping 5.00 per set, including 17 in Friday's four-set win at UC Irvine.

Beshear added 17 kills against the Anteaters and nine more Saturday. Leluge's nine-block effort against the Tritons stands as the best single-match blocking performance by a Mustang this season. Haury's 34 assists Saturday followed a 47-assist outing at UC Irvine, giving her 81 for the weekend. Pulling chipped in 10 kills and six blocks across the trip, and Noe Vanacht enjoyed perhaps her greatest breakout weekend with 10 digs against UCSD after a 12-dig performance Friday.

Cal Poly remains three games above second-place Long Beach State (10-2) for rights to the Big West Championship's top seed, as the Mustangs currently own the head-to-head tiebreaker. Coincidentally, the Mustangs can officially clinch their spot in the Big West Championship field in front of the Mott Athletics Center home crowd with a victory over the Beach at 6 p.m. next Friday.

This is just the second time in program history Cal Poly has earned at least 12 straight wins to start the Big West slate. This is the Mustangs' best start in Big West play since 2017, which was the first 12-plus-win season when the program notched its only perfect conference slate (16-0) in its history, under now-associate head coach Sam Crosson.

The Big West record for conference wins in a season was set by Hawai'i in 2022 when the Rainbow Wahine went 19-1. There have been multiple unbeaten conference runs in the Big West's long history, but the Mustangs are chasing the coveted 18-0, accomplished only six times for the highest unbeaten win total.

The Mustangs remain home for both of the next two weekends, beginning with the matchup against Long Beach State before Saturday's 6 p.m. clash with Cal State Fullerton. The following weekend will bring Utah Valley and Sacramento State to San Luis Obispo for the first time as Big West foes.

UCSB 3, UC Irvine 0: The UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball team closed out their weekend 2-0 with a Saturday evening sweep of UC Irvine. The Gauchos went 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-22) to put themselves third in the conference with an 8-4 record.

Gabi Martinez landed 20 kills, reaching the count for the fourth time this season. She also administered three aces and scooped eight digs. Two more Gauchos made 10 kills, with Auburn Tomkinson and Emma McDermott reaching the tallies. Milan Rex and Cortni Youngblood both dug 13 digs, while Bella Mathis went five for seven. The Gauchos made 51 kills, 17 more than their competitors, while hitting .299.

The Gauchos return home to host Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Nov. 6, and Long Beach State on Saturday, Nov. 7. Both matches will take place at 7:00 p.m.
