The Golden Bachelor‘s Mel Owens is speaking out for the first time since his breakup with his final rose recipient Peg Munson.
“Stay positive. Stay strong. Stay golden,” Owens wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 28, while taking a mirror selfie at the gym. “And Stay Bizzy…#bachelornation #fyp #fypage #workouts #inshape.”
In the comment section, one fan addressed his recent split from Munson, writing, “Mel doesn’t owe anyone an explanation of every detail of his breakup. ❤️ Just because someone is in the public eye doesn’t mean they surrender their right to privacy.”
Owens then replied, “Amen. Thank you.”
In another comment, the former pro football player added that his gym trip was not because of a “breakup diet” and has been part of his routine for years.

Munson was first to announce the breakup via a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
“As a lot of you guys know, I went on The Golden Bachelor hoping to find love. And I did. And for that I’m grateful. I did have to make the difficult decision to step away from the relationship and sometimes even when there’s love, it just doesn’t turn out the way that we hoped,” Munson said in part.
On the show, Owens gave his final rose to Munson over runner-up Cindy Cullers. In the finale, Owens gave Munson a promise ring instead of proposing.
In August, the couple celebrated their one-year anniversary.
“Cheers to one year! ??,” Munson wrote on Instagram at the time. “One year since the Fantasy Suite, and there’s definitely a lot to look back on! From that unforgettable chapter to everything that came after, we’re just feeling grateful for the memories, the laughs, and the journey.”
Prior to the show, Owens was married to his ex-wife Fabiana Pimentel Owens for 25 years, and the couple shares two sons. Munson was previously married as well and has one daughter.
