It’s the end of the first month of the NHL regular season, so what better time than now to grossly overreact to what we’ve seen and throw out there a first 2027 NHL Mock Draft of the new year!
Selfishly, we would love to no longer be focusing on the top of the board in a mock draft at this point. But the Chicago Blackhawks have done nothing to change our focus; they’re in position to have another high pick in June. Unless something changes, we’re going to have plenty of time to discuss draft talent again this season.
Add to that the fact that the Blackhawks own three picks in the first round of the 2027 NHL Draft and there’s plenty to consider for Chicago. That is, of course, unless/until the Hawks trade some of their draft capital to change the roster dynamics in the season. But, for now, the Hawks have three picks in the first round of our mock draft.
It’s also a good time to consider a mock draft because NHL Central Scouting released their preliminary draft grades earlier this week. We’ve also seen some early prospect rankings (which I’m tracking all season once again).
I used the mock draft simulator at Tankathon to determine the draft order on Oct. 30. I ran the simulator 19 times because it’s a great number (Troy Murray, Jonathan Toews). Here’s the lottery order it gave me:
