While the HBO Max medical drama The Pitt has received many awards and acclaim since its first season premiered in early 2025, actress and comedian Amy Poehler thinks there’s one major way the show can improve.
Poehler interviewed one of the show’s stars, writers, and executive producers, Noah Wyle, for the October 27 episode of her podcast, Good Hang. Poehler, who is a fan of The Pitt, offered Wyle some unexpected feedback regarding the show’s realistic gore.
The Parks and Recreation star said she believes, “if you’re going to show so much guts and blood,” the audience also needs to be rewarded with some romantic moments.
“If you’re going to show that much, every time you do that, you got to get a little smooch. Someone’s got to do a little smooch. One for one. Just a tiny smooch,” said Poehler to an amused Wyle.
The 55-year-old actor, who portrays Pitt character Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, played along with Poehler and said he would consider “maybe a one to four ratio” regarding her suggestion.
“Not one for one,” said Wyle.
Poehler finished her feedback by stating, “If you’re going to show the guts, you got to show some butts.”
‘The Pitt’ Actors Attended a Boot Camp for Medical Accuracy
In order to make The Pitt as accurate as possible, the show’s cast was tasked with attending a two-week medical boot camp. Several of the show’s stars spoke about the boot camp during behind-the-scenes interviews in 2025 to promote the first season of The Pitt.
For instance, Gerran Howell, who plays Dr. Dennis Whitaker, shared that he and his co-stars “were all put into a stage and surrounded by five to six medical professionals.” In addition, Tracy Ifeachor, who played the season 1 character, Dr. Heather Collins, recalled that they “got to work with the doctors one-on-one.”
“We got to practice all of the procedures on dummies and mannequins,” said the actress.
Isa Briones, who portrays Dr. Trinity Santos, also shared how the boot camp helped her play an ER doctor in an authentic way.
“The main thing that we got from the medical boot camp was to feel in the world and get used to that version of life,” said Briones.
The upcoming third season of The Pitt is set to premiere in January 2027.
