Remember back in August, when country star Kenny Chesney was cleared of liability in a lawsuit by a woman who said she was scammed by an impersonator? According to Taste of Country, Patricia Linson sued Chesney because she lost $300,000 to scammers pretending to be him. In the suit, Linson claimed that Chesney (who had nothing to do with the scam) should have warned fans about the possibility of being targeted.
Linson lost the case, but musicians have become a lot more cautious about keeping their fans safe from these types of predators since then. For example, just this week Guns N’ Roses shared an urgent message on social media regarding a similar scandal.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, the band posted a warning and asked fans to help stop any suspicious activity.
“To all our fans, we’ve been informed of impersonators asking for contributions, something we would never do,” the post read. “Please watch out for these scammers & report them!”

— Guns N’ Roses (@gunsnroses) October 25, 2026These scams aren’t limited to rock and roll, either. Back in 2025, a woman lost a staggering $850,000 to scammers posing as Brad Pitt, as the BBC reported. The victim was convinced that Pitt needed money for kidney cancer treatment in a ruse involving AI photos of the actor in a hospital bed.
“I looked those photos up on the internet but couldn’t find them so I thought that meant he had taken those selfies just for me,” she said.
